Thirty years in search

Why this practice exists.

Web Cited is run by a search practitioner whose first optimization work shipped in 1995 - hand-tuning meta tags for AltaVista and Lycos before Google existed. The discipline has been reinvented three times since: PageRank and backlinks, intent and entities, and now the generative-citation era.

A decade ago, Web Cited's founder led discoverability work on an early voice-controlled AI-wearable product - optimizing for voice queries, structured product data, and third-party review citations years before most marketers had vocabulary for any of it. Thirty years of search history plus a decade of hands-on AI-product work is exactly what the post-ten-blue-links web rewards, and exactly what Web Cited brings to every weekly reading.

Point of view

What we believe.

The last decade of marketing spend was allocated against a search model that is quietly being replaced. The next five years belong to teams that understand which surfaces actually answer their buyer's questions - and keep working to win those surfaces as the answers shift.

We think AI answers move too fast to measure once and forget. A one-time audit is a snapshot, and snapshots go stale, so we read your prompts every week and only charge while the work is paying off. We think a written scope forces a better deliverable than an open-ended retainer. And we think if the answer you need is "keep doing what you're doing," we should be honest enough to say so.

How we work

Operating principles.

Four commitments that shape every account. If any of these are incompatible with your buying process, we're not the right fit - and we'll tell you so before you pay.

Written scope
Every tier is a written scope: the prompts, URLs, and competitors are listed, not negotiated onto an invoice later. Change them yourself anytime and the next reading reflects it.
Senior delivery
The person who builds the practice is the person who reads your account. No account manager layer. No junior pyramid.
Opinionated output
Every finding has a recommended action. The report is meant to be acted on, not filed. If a recommendation is low-confidence, we say so explicitly.
No retainer, cancel anytime
It's a subscription, not a managed-services retainer. Month to month, self-serve, cancel from the billing portal. We don't propose ongoing services at a review call. If you need implementation help, we recommend specialists we've worked with - no referral fees.
The discipline is the product. Not the retainer after it.
Who we work with

Fit criteria.

We built this practice for a specific buyer - a founder, marketer, SEO, or product lead whose audience is already partially researching in AI tools.

Good fit

  • B2B SaaS, fintech, healthcare-tech, and other high-consideration categories
  • Companies with existing SEO infrastructure and an internal implementer
  • Marketing teams reporting to a CRO or CMO who cares about pipeline influence, not ranking reports
  • Buyers who can make a $49-a-month decision without a six-person committee

Not a fit

  • Pre-product-market-fit startups with under ten customers
  • Brands looking for ongoing content production or link building
  • Teams that want a 100-point "SXO score" dashboard
  • Organizations requiring a three-month procurement cycle for a $49-a-month subscription
